Sauvignon Veneto IGT 'Vulcaia Fumé'

‘Vulcaia Fumé’ was among the first wines to reimagine Sauvignon Blanc in Veneto, combining French varietal character with Italian volcanic terroir. Grown on Monte Foscarino’s black basalt soils, the grapes are fermented and aged in small oak barrels, adding texture and spice to the vibrant fruit. This is a bold, original take on a classic grape, with unmistakable regional identity. Smoky citrus, tropical fruit, lemongrass and vanilla notes rise from the glass, layered with savoury complexity. The palate is rich and dynamic, with fresh acidity keeping everything in focus. An exceptional match for smoked fish, roast chicken or soft cheeses.

The Producer

Giuseppe Inama – Stefano’s father – began shrewdly acquiring parcels of vineyards in the heart of Soave Classico in the 1960s.  Back then it was possible to do this out of one’s savings, such was the terrible reputation of Soave.  Of course times change and through the pioneering work of Stefano, and others, the quality of Soave is no longer in question.  These wines define an entire appellation.  From the Tovi cuvee sourced exclusively from estate vineyards through Foscarino and Carbonare to I Palchi, a berry-by-berry selection only made in top vintages, Inama IS Soave Classico.

The mineral-rich volcanic soils are equally adept at crafting Sauvignon and the Vulcaia Fumé is a magnificent creature with a captivating nose of yellow plum, hints of pineapple, and a mineral edge all wrapped up in 30% new French oak, just what the tropical waxy fruit requires.

Of late, much attention has turned to the estate’s reds from the Colli Berici. Another prescient move by Stefano, this area is now recognised for its superb Bordeaux varietals.  Bradisismo, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, reflects Inama’s new approach to a global classic.  Brad – as it’s known in the office – joins the Carmenere Piú and Carminium, both sourced from Europe’s largest Carmenere vineyard.  Stephane Derenencourt consults and his subtle hand can be seen in silky tannins and complex aromatics.
