Following on from InternationalAlbariñoDay at the beginning of the month, we have more good news for Albariño lovers! We are immensely proud of the team at Morgadío. Their Puerta Santa Albariño was just selected as the Best Albariño at the 71st edition of the Albariño Festival in Cambados, the heart of RíasBaixas.

The festival has taken place each year since the 1950s, and today it welcomes around 150,000 people over the 5 days. This includes some major cultural and political figures, including the UK ambassador. The president of the Galician government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, highlighted the importance of the Albariño Festival so that ‘Galicia continues to be one of the main wine tourism destinations of Spain’. With over 1000 Albariño producing bodegas, only the top 60 or so entered this year.

The region is famous for both Albariño and the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, and this bottle embodies both. The wine is a beautiful example of ripe, full bodied Albariño with typical apple, peach and tropical fruit as well as important acidity. It pairs well with all types of seafood as well as creamy chicken dishes.

To be chosen as the crème de la crème by those at the heart of what you do is something special indeed. We will certainly be treating ourselves to a glass this evening to celebrate their success!
