Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Riserva 'Nùrule'

Sardegna, Italy

‘Nùrule’ is a Riserva-level Cannonau from older vines grown on terraced granite slopes near the Gulf of Orosei, offering a more serious and structured take on the variety. After long maceration and ageing in large barrels, the wine shows remarkable depth, balance and longevity. Expect aromas of dried cherry, fig, bay leaf and forest floor with a warm, spicy undertone. The palate is generous yet poised, with ripe tannins, lifted acidity and a savoury, mineral finish. This is a wine that evolves gracefully in the glass. Ideal with slow-cooked meats, Pecorino Sardo or wild mushroom dishes. Powerful, grounded and deeply Sardinian.

The Producer

In a recent frenzy of passion for the wines coming out of Sardinia, the cooperative of Dorgali has really blown us away with their ever-so-fresh Vermentino and Cannonaus. With over 600 hectares, they impressively keep everything by hand and super low yields to create concentration alongside freshness in their wines. Nestled between the Supramonte mountains and the Gulf of Orosei on the eastern coast, their unique terroir is a gem reflecting in the quality but hardly in the price of these wines.

The Vermentino is all stainless and has a lovely oily texture to compliment the fresh citrus tones. Standing out is the Cannonau, an amazing representation of grenache. The Tunila shows crunchy tannins alongside red berry fruits and the reserve Nurule steps it up with real depth and concentration. 12 months in oak gives spice and darker fruit, with the ability for ageing to be sure.
